Lepas L8: the new plug-in hybrid SUV from the makers of Jaecoo
Chery Group's third UK brand arrives with a large five-seat plug-in hybrid SUV, a 56-mile electric range and low company-car tax.

Lepas is the newest name on UK roads, and it comes from a familiar stable. It is the third brand from the Chery Group, the company behind Jaecoo and Omoda, whose Jaecoo 7 has been one of the UK's best-selling cars this year. The L8 is its first UK model: a large five-seat plug-in hybrid SUV aimed squarely at drivers who want space and kit without paying premium-badge prices.
The key numbers
- 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine paired with an electric motor and an 18.4kWh battery
- Up to 56 miles of electric-only driving, and up to 745 miles combined range
- Rapid charging from 30 to 80% in around 20 minutes in the right conditions
- Official CO2 of around 21g/km, putting it in a low company-car tax band
- Two trims: Essence to start, and Elevate at the top
What you get
- 13.2-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Panoramic roof, reclining rear seats and wireless phone charging
- Elevate adds heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, a 540-degree camera, remote parking assist, Sony audio and a hands-free power tailgate
Why it matters for business leasing
- Plug-in hybrids with around 21g/km CO2 attract far lower Benefit-in-Kind than petrol or diesel SUVs, so the L8 is worth a look for company-car drivers who can't yet go fully electric
- Most short business trips can be done on battery alone, with petrol back-up for longer runs
- New brands often price keenly to win fleet customers, and the L8 is no exception
