Volkswagen ID. Polo: the electric Polo arrives — what it means for business drivers

Volkswagen has opened UK orders for the ID. Polo, an all-electric supermini that takes the Polo name into the EV era. First versions went on order at the end of July, with the rest of the range following in September.

- List prices from £23,945 (Life, 37kWh, 116PS) up to £32,995 for the Style Launch Edition
- Two batteries: 37kWh and 52kWh, with 116PS to 211PS
- Up to 281 miles of WLTP range on the larger battery
- Rapid charging from 10 to 80% in around 24 minutes on some versions
- Built on VW's new small-car electric platform, shared with the Skoda Epiq and Cupra Raval
Why it matters for business leasing
For company car drivers, a fully electric car keeps benefit-in-kind tax far lower than a petrol or hybrid equivalent, and a sub-£25,000 list price keeps business contract hire rentals within reach of smaller firms and pool-car fleets.
A new model like this also tends to shake up the market. Businesses that took out leases on older petrol Polos, Golfs or first-generation small EVs may now want to move into something newer — and taking over a lease, rather than ending one early, avoids an Early Termination Charge.
